Why We No Longer Offer Soy Blend Candles
Soybean Deforestation is a THING!
Soy is in our everyday lives. Not only are soybeans used for candle making, but they are made into food products like tofu, soy sauce, and meat substitutes. Without proper safety measures, the soybean industry is causing widespread deforestation.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, over 160,000 square miles, an area roughly the size of California, were lost in deforestation hot spots around the world between 2004 and 2017. Deforestation puts human health and the health of our planet at risk.
Some mass-produced candles contain all kinds of toxins. In fact, some are just downright terrible for you. Most mass-produced candles are made with paraffin wax. While paraffin wax has superior scent throw, paraffin is derived from petroleum and is not environmentally friendly or sustainable.
While soy wax is becoming more popular and is a cheaper wax option, it doesn't have ideal burn qualities! Soy is very difficult to master, they are super unattractive after you burn them, and they don't always produce a scent.
The wax that we use for our cotton wick candles is a blend of natural coconut and apricot oils. You won't find this type of candle in big box stores! It burns clean, has excellent scent throw, and a creamy white appearance (we do not dye our candles!). Sure, it’s a bit more expensive in comparison to other waxes, but it’s worth it!
Every single one of our candles are made in small batches, and hand-poured with love, peace, and soul!
Our candles are also free of phthalates so you can buy and burn our candles with confidence. Light one up while listening to your favorite playlist, of course!
